Microneedling (also known as skin needling or collagen induction therapy) is a type of treatment that uses small needles to cause tiny punctures in the skin. These small contact points encourage the body to create a wound healing response and renew the skin cells. As your skin repairs, the production of collagen and elastin is triggered to give an almost immediate plumping effect. It can also help tackle other skin damage such as scarring, dark marks, sun damage and ageing.
A microneedling session is an effective treatment for the following concerns on the face:
Microneedling is most commonly used to treat the following skin conditions:
Dull skin: Rejuvenate tired and dull skin and combat the initial signs of ageing.
Wrinkles: Fine lines and wrinkles on the face can be visibly reduced, as microneedling triggers collagen production.
Scarring: Scars from acne and Chicken Pox can be improved and an uneven texture can be smoothed out with microneedling.
Pigmentation: Can help to fade dark patches such as pigmentation due to sun damage or ageing.
Initial Consultation:
You will be required to have an initial consultation with our Aesthetic Skin Therapist. Our therapist will assess your condition and determine the most appropriate form of treatment. During your consultation they will be able to answer any questions you may have about your skin condition and give you personalised advice. If they decide your skin condition can be treated, they will advise you on steps needed to prepare for a treatment and book you in for your treatment.
On The Day of Your Treatment:
On the day of your treatment, your aesthetic therapist will assess your skin and advise how many Microneedling treatment sessions will be necessary to achieve your skin goals (either 1, 3 or 6 sessions).
On the day of your appointment if you are a new client you should arrive 10 minutes before your appointment time to complete a questionnaire, consent form and photography will be taken (This photography is confidential and is for us to monitor progress).
The treatment itself takes between 10-20 minutes.
A cocktail of serums is chosen following your treatment to enhance the results of your treatment (depending on your skincare needs).
If you wish to give a more dramatic result our Radiant 30 chemical peel can be applied to your skin immediately after the micro-needling facial, when your skin channels are open, to give an enhanced skin result.
SPF will then be applied to protect your skin and aftercare advice will be discussed. Your aesthetic therapist will advise you how soon you should have your next session (typically between 3-6 weeks) and will schedule this for you.
Results usually start to become visible within 6 weeks of your initial appointment, full results are 6 weeks after your final treatment session.
For optimum results, a course of 3 – 6 treatments are recommended depending on your skin concerns:
• General skin rejuvenation / large pore treatment – 3 treatments recommended
• Remove fine lines and wrinkles – 6 treatments recommended
• Acne scar treatment or surgical scars – 6 treatments recommended
• Loose skin – 6 to 9 treatments recommended
Yes, you should apply Alumier MD moisturiser and either Fancy Face Clinical SPF or Alumier MD SPF to your face for at least 14 days following your treatment. You will be able to purchase them in our clinic on the day of your treatment or ahead of treatment via our online shop.
The treatment session itself lasts for around 20 minutes – although this may vary depending on which part of your body we treat. For example, a stomach treatment will take more time than a facial rejuvenation treatment.
We request that clients stop using active products (e.g. those containing retinol, AHA’s or hydroquinone) 5 days before their appointment.
This microneedling treatment is not suitable for people who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have keloid scarring or are immunocompromised with delayed wound healing.
